Water pollution

Water pollution can threaten our health and the health of our waterways. It includes polluting waters directly and allowing for water pollution to occur.

Different organisations are responsible for the investigation of water pollution

Cessnock City Council is responsible for the investigation of:

  • water pollution from small scale private industry
  • stormwater pollution
  • pollution of creeks, streams and lakes

All other water pollution must be reported to the organisation responsible for its regulation. You can obtain the contacts for water pollution on the NSW Environment Protection Authority website.

Council and the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) investigate water pollution incidents under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997
