Weekly works update

To keep the community informed about roads maintenance and repairs in the Cessnock Local Government Area, Council will be providing you with regular updates on where council crews are working and what they are working on.
 

In the coming week, Council teams and contractors will be working on the following roads (pending weather).
Updated for week ending 20 July 2025.

�� Sawyers Gully Road, Sawyers Gully – Lot 3 sub-soil drainage works commencing, batter works in Bathurst Street.
�� East Esplanade between Third & Fourth Streets, Weston – Completion of signage
�� Anderson Avenue Walking Pathway, Paxton – Kerb and gutter concrete pour, excavation for the first stage of walking path
�� Sandy Creek Road – Pothole repairs
�� Richmond Vale Road, Richmond Vale – Pothole repairs
�� Sawyers Gully, Weston, Kurri Kurri & Pokolbin areas – Pothole repairs
�� Narone Creek Road, Wollombi – Grading unsealed road
�� Wallaby Gully Road, Ellalong – Grading unsealed road
�� Green Lane, Brickmans Lane & Tuckers Lane, Lovedale – Grading unsealed road
�� Kurri Kurri area – Slashing and laneway/shoulder maintenance
�� Abermain Public School – Car park maintenance

�� Wollombi Road Upgrade Project

Zone 1 – Lochinvar St to O’Neill St
East bound:

  • Stormwater pits
  • Sewer under road bore
  • Gas main and telecommunications work

West bound:

  • Gas main install
  • Water main road crossing (night work Mon-Wed night)

Traffic and community items:

  • Work zone in place on both sides of the road
  • Wangi St and O’Neill St restrictions remain in place
  • Wollombi Road closure during night work 14–16 July, diversions in place.

Zone 2 – Abbotsford St to Lochinvar St
East and west bound:

  • General site investigations, surveying, planning and enabling work

Zone 3 – O’Neill St to Florence St
East and west bound:

  • Utility investigation

Traffic and community items:

  • Work zone traffic barrier install starting 21 July during night work 21–23 July, diversions in place.
