NSW Health has issued a stay at home order for Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens, Singleton, Dungog, Muswellbrook and Cessnock Local Government Areas effective from 5pm Thursday 8 August to 12:01am Friday 13 August. On Saturday 24 July 2021, the NSW Government announced the postponement of the Local Government elections in response to the evolving COVID-19 situation. Previously scheduled for Saturday 4 September 2021, the new date has been set for Saturday 4 December 2021.
