All stages of the Gingers Lane re-construction, the Hart Road roundabout construction and Government Road Weston upgrade are now complete.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent welcomed the end of works and recognised the community for their ongoing patience.

“It has not been an easy journey for those living on Gingers Lane or in the vicinity of the intersection.  It has interrupted your day-to-day activities as we worked to deliver this critical upgrade to ensure the busy intersection and travel route was safe following the increase of traffic to and from the Hunter Expressway.  The good news is that we have wrapped up the works and what a fantastic result.”

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the NSW Government contributed $1.8 million funding for the Hart Road roundabout which will deliver a safer roundabout for the three intersecting roads.

“Projects like these not only make a real difference to the everyday lives of locals, but also help support our freight industry by improving the connectivity of local roads, including key freight corridors,” Mr Toole said.

“This reduces the cost of getting goods to market for local businesses and unlocks greater economic opportunities for the region.”

“The NSW Government is committed to building a safer, stronger regional NSW through our record investment in vital infrastructure projects like this.”

The new roundabout at Loxford, which intersects Government Road, Sawyers Gully Road, Hart Road and Gingers Lane was completed in March and provides a vast improvement for driver safety.

Two of Council’s construction teams worked together to complete the large project.

The event held today also recognises the completion of the re-construction of Gingers Lane that was finalised in December 2020.

Gingers Lane now has new pavement for the entire 2.2km length, widened travel lanes and road shoulders including kerb and gutters. Work also involved safety barriers, improved driver sight lines, new turn lane access at all three intersections into the existing residential precincts, upgraded stormwater drainage capacity, and service relocations. New intersection lighting will also be installed in the coming months.

Pavement renewal works on Government Road from the roundabout to Mitchell Avenue have also recently been completed.

The Gingers Lane project was jointly funded by the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Fixing Country Roads program and Cessnock City Council.

The Government Road project was funded by the Australian Government through a Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Grant totalling $300,399. and provided much needed pavement rectification to a highly trafficked link from the roundabout to the Weston industrial area.

Council is pleased to be able to deliver these projects to the community and ensure a safer journey for those travelling in the Cessnock Local Government Area. For more information on Council works visit Council’s website.
