Spotlight back on the Cessnock City CBD Bypass

As Cessnock City continues to grow so does traffic on local roads and Cessnock City Council is looking for opportunities to address congestion and plan for the future.

At the latest meeting of Council the Cessnock CBD Bypass was reprioritised and Council resolved to look for grant funding opportunities to fund the concept plan of this major project.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said as we continue to experience population growth we need to be thinking strategically about the future.

“The creation of the Cessnock CBD Bypass will take huge investment and planning. This isn’t going to be an overnight project and we need to start somewhere. This Council wants to start the process now.”

Council resolved to include the review of the Cessnock Local Government Area Traffic and Transport Strategy and Concept Plan for the Cessnock CBD Bypasses in the Operational Plan 2021/22.

In the event Council is unable to secure grant funding for the Strategy and Concept Plan other funding options were identified. This includes $132,000 of repealed development contributions and $793,000 from the profits from the sale of Stage 8 of Vineyard Grove Estate and 62-76 Cessnock Street, Aberdare.
