Good news for libraries, sport and tourism!

Cessnock City Council is pleased to announce that as of Friday 29 May more facilities will reopen to the public.

It’s welcome news for local sporting clubs and groups, with sportsgrounds and recreational spaces set to reopen for activity. 

Many clubs are in talks with their governing sporting association in relation to returning to training and the changes that may need to be undertaken to keep the community safe. Following a number of conditions being met Council will issue approval for the sporting activity to return in line with NSW Government restrictions. Sport Australia has developed a Return to Sport Toolkit that includes a suite of resources to help sporting organisations get ready to recommence training, competitions and programs in a safe, responsible and low risk manner.

 

There’s also good news for our tourism operators as tourism across NSW resumes from Monday 1 June 2020. Recreational Vehicle areas will reopen to the public and the Hunter Valley Visitor Information Centre will open its doors on Monday just in time for the long weekend. It’s fantastic to hear that people can’t wait to come back to explore the region with significant visitor enquiries and bookings reported.

 

Cessnock City Library and Kurri Kurri Libraries will reopen from Monday 1 June. Opening hours will be Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Patrons will be able to select and borrow their own items or call staff who will prepare a loan for collection.

An express public computer, photocopying and scanning services will be available at each branch. Both libraries will be operating in a COVID-safe mode. If you have any questions please feel free to call (02) 4993 4399 or email at library@cessnock.nsw.gov.au.

 

Council is also working towards reopening Council’s Administration Building to provide a face to face customer service with the Customer Relations Team. Work is underway to install a number of screens to protect both customers and staff at the counter. It’s anticipated that the face to face service will resume in mid to late June.
