Tech Savvy Senior

From May to December 2022, Cessnock and Kurri Kurri Libraries have more than 50 free technology workshops on offer for seniors living in the Cessnock Local Government Area.

Seniors are invited to join the small and friendly workshops which are supported by expert staff. Attendees will learn new skills in order to become more tech savvy and to get help mastering their smartphone, computer or tablet.

The first few workshops include:

  • Building Digital Skills - Scams from 10am on Thursday 5 May at Cessnock Library
  • Introduction to the Internet from 10am on Monday 9 May at Kurri Kurri Library
  • Taking a great photo with your smartphone from 10am on Tuesday 7 June at Kurri Kurri Library

Many of the workshops will focus on building digital skills, covering topics like streaming movies, managing photos, online shopping, health and wellbeing apps, and social connections.

There will also be workshops based around the theme of memories and connection, including how to record videos, and use tools like WhatsApp, Zoom and Skype to connect with family and friends.

Cessnock City Council’s Library Services Coordinator Rose-marie Walters is encouraging local seniors to take advantage of these practical, hands-on workshops.

“These workshops are about teaching local seniors that technology isn’t terrifying or to be avoided, but can be an incredibly useful tool when you have the skills to get the most out your device,” Ms Walters said.

To view the full range of workshops, visit the Library website or drop in to your local library to collect the brochure.

Bookings are essential, book online or by calling Cessnock Library on 4993 4399 or Kurri Kurri Library on 4937 1638.
