April

  • Food Waste Challenge
    4 week challenge starting in April, online and in your kitchen (free)
    Join the Cessnock Smarter Kitchens program and use the ‘AI’ supported KitchenHand.io tools and hacks to avoid food waste. Share your recipe creations for a chance to win delicious prizes. Register here for access and announcements.

May

  • Clothes Swap
    Saturday 4 May, 12.30–3.00pm at North Cessnock Community Hall
    Have you got clothes that are in good condition but you just don’t wear them? Bring them along and swap them for something different. Great for updating the wardrobe without the cost and without the waste.

  • Vegetable Growing Workshop
    Saturday 18 May, 10.00am–1.00pm at Feedback Farm – 21 Brooks Street, Heddon Greta
    Will and Anthea from Maplewood Permaculture will give you all the tips and tricks to successfully growing your own food, in this practical and informative workshop. The workshop is relevant if you are growing on acreages or on a small balcony. June

  • Seed Saving Workshop
    Saturday 1 June, 11.00am–2.00pm at Cessnock Men's Shed
    Take your gardening to the next level with this workshop. The workshop will cover the self-seeding garden, saving seeds of annual and biennial crops, how to produce quality seed and much more. 

  • Repair Cafe
    Saturday 15 June, 10.00am–12.30pm at Kearsley Hall
    Do you have tools that need sharpening, or do you have clothes or small electrical items that need repairing? Or perhaps you have small pieces of furniture that need repairing? Come along as we work and learn together to fix, repair and reduce waste.

  • Household Chemical Collection
    Sunday 16 June, 9.00am–3.30pm at Cessnock City Council Depot Car Park
    Dispose of household quantities of household chemicals (e.g. pesticides and herbicides and pool chemicals) for free and keep these items out of landfill.

July

  • Mattress Muster
    Saturday 20 July, 8.00am–12.00pm at Corner of Barton & Merthyr Streets, Kurri Kurri
    Free collection of used mattresses. All mattresses are recycled.

  • Formal Clothes Swap (held in conjunction with Maitland City Council)
    Saturday 27 July, time TBC at Gillieston Heights Community Hub
    A clothes swap especially for formal wear. Get ready for your school formal or other end of year event. 

August

  • Film Night – Rachels Farm
    Friday 2 August from 6.30pm at PACC

September

  • Our Bushland Festival
    Sunday 8 September at Poppethead Park, Kitchener

October

  • Mattress Muster
    Saturday 19 October, 8.00am–12.00pm at Mount View Basin Car Park, Cessnock
    Free collection of used mattresses. All mattresses are recycled.

  • Repair Cafe
    Saturday 26 October, 10.00am–12.30pm at Kearsley Hall
