Councillor Anthony Burke has lived in the local area for 34 years and was born in Kurri Kurri. Anthony and his family lived in the Abermain and Kurri Kurri areas until he made the move to Cessnock.
Cr Burke is self-employed and runs a business as a Celebrant, Master of Ceremony, Speaker and Coach. He is a passionate community member and joined Council to give back to the local community and to bring a fresh perspective and fresh ideas. He has spent many years volunteering to ensure opportunities are created for local people. He was formerly the President of Kurri Kurri Rotary Club and is currently the President of Australia’s largest Celebrant Association. He is enthusiastic about creating more opportunities for the broader Cessnock Local Government Area (LGA).
Anthony is interested in the economic development and business sustainability in the Cessnock LGA which in turn results in jobs for locals. Having a young family of his own, Anthony would like to see improvements to parks and recreation areas within the LGA. He believes it’s important to provide a space for young families to live an active and healthy life, and ensuring these areas are accessible to all. He is also a strong believer in the area having a high standard road network and cycle ways connecting the entire LGA.
