For residents outside the waste collection service area, alternate service arrangements are available through a self-haul voucher system. Please complete an Alternate Waste Application and Renewal Form.

Vouchers are available for general household waste & recycling (cardboard & commingled recycling) only.

Who can apply for Alternate Waste and Recycle Vouchers?

Residential properties in the Cessnock local government area that are outside the domestic waste management service area (i.e. do not receive a kerbside collection) are eligible to purchase Alternate Waste and/or Recycling Vouchers.

The vouchers are for residential waste only and cannot be purchased by commercial premises or used for commercial generated waste.

What does the voucher cover?

Alternate Waste Vouchers allows up to 20 kg of mixed waste to be disposed of at the Cessnock Waste Management Centre. The vouchers cannot be used for special waste such as asbestos, tyres and mattresses.

Alternate Recycling Vouchers allows up to 20 kg of cardboard and commingled recyclables to be disposed of at the Cessnock Waste Management Centre. These vouchers cannot be used for any other waste.

What is the cost?

The cost of Alternate Waste Vouchers for 2020/21 is $40 per 10 vouchers.

The cost of Alternate Recycling Vouchers for 2020/21 is $20 per 10 vouchers.

Changes to voucher weight value for 2020/21

Alternate Waste and Recycling vouchers now have a weight value of 20kg, reduced from the previous weight of 30kg.

This change has occurred to ensure the fees per voucher adequately cover operational costs including the EPAs waste levy charge of $146/tonne for 2020/21.

How can I apply?

Complete the Alternate Waste/Recycling application(PDF, 509KB) and return to Council via mail or email.

Contact Customer Service Centre on (02) 4993 4100 to make the relevant payment.

Your application will then assessed and once approved your vouchers will be issued.

How many vouchers can I purchase?

A minimum of 10 vouchers can be purchased per application.

A maximum of 110 vouchers can be purchased per property each financial year.

Refunds will not be provided, however up to 10 vouchers from 2019/20 can be exchanged for current vouchers.

Vouchers must be exchanged between 31 July and 30 September.
