Cessnock Youth Centre & Outreach Service (CYCOS)

In collaboration with communities, government and non-government agencies, Cessnock Youth Centre & Outreach Service (CYCOS) supports young people in the Cessnock Local Government Area through programs, partnerships, and creating opportunities for them to actively participate in quality community life. 

It's important we are responsive to the needs of young people as it's a significant time of physical and psychological development. We need to remain adaptive in changing times of rapid growth and new technologies. We're proud to offer a range of initiatives to support, educate, engage and inspire young people as they transition to adulthood.

Mission and philosophy

The primary goal of the service is the personal and social development of the young people who engage in a CYCOS activity.

CYCOS will strive to provide programs and activities in an environment which:

• values and supports all individuals
• fosters professional, effective and caring relationship with young people
• promotes the positive image and value status of young people

By:

• providing an appropriate range of social, recreational and vocational opportunities that are delivered in a planned and flexible manner
• providing school based programs that improve wellbeing, health knowledge or inclusion
• providing positive outcomes for young people
• creating a non-threatening environment that encourages a sense of responsibility for self which is respectful and inclusive
• providing opportunities that involve young people in the identification of needs and planning of activities and programs
• providing information about support services and referral to appropriate services when required
• encouraging the personal development of young people
