Cessnock City Council has announced the five (5) winners of our Responsible Pet Ownership sticker design competition at Maybury Peace Park Weston.

Local students from Kindergarten through to Year 6 in the Cessnock Local Government Area had the opportunity to show off their artistic skills, with the chance to have their artwork featured on Council’s Ranger vehicles.

Mayor of Cessnock City Jay Suvaal says it is important to educate our community about responsible pet ownership as early as possible.

"Cessnock Council’s Ranger Services Team work hard to educate the community about their responsibilities to their pets," said Clr Suvaal.

"This competition is a great way to creatively engage the young people of our community and teach them how to ensure their pets are safe, happy and healthy."

Student entrants designed their artwork around one of five topics including; ‘Shut the Gate, Protect Your Mate’, ‘Collar and Tag’, ‘Walking on a Lead’, ‘Caring for Your Pet’ and Exercising Your Pet’. The winners for each category were:

Shut the Gate, Protect Your Mate:

Ashley Taylor, Pelaw Main Public School (Year 3)

Collar and Tag:

Mercedes Lambkin, Cessnock East Public School (Year 6)

Walking on a Lead:

Isabella Heath, Weston Public School (Year 5/6)

Caring for Your Pet:

Ellie-Grace Hooker-Connell, St. Patrick's Primary School Cessnock (Year 4)

Exercising Your Pet:

Jayla Hull, Weston Public School (Year 2)

This year marked the second time Council has run this popular school-based competition that promotes Responsible Pet Ownership within the community, in a fun, creative and highly visible way, following the inaugural competition in 2022.
