Cessnock City Council has begun opening applications for a broad range of apprentice, trainee and undergraduate roles as part of its 2026 LAUNCH program intake.

The LAUNCH initiative offers a valuable platform for individuals to kickstart or advance their career paths through structured development, expert guidance, and practical experience. The program supports participants in gaining essential skills, mentorship, and recognised qualifications.

Currently, Cessnock City Council employs 25 apprentices, trainees and undergraduates across various teams, creating a vibrant and supportive work environment focused on professional and personal development.

Recruitment is now underway for new apprentice positions, with opportunities for trainees opening later this month. Applications for undergraduate roles will open in early August. The positions will span various fields including Parks and Gardens, Landscape Construction, Engineering, Recreation Planning, People and Culture, Administration, and Customer Relations.

Cessnock City Council’s Acting General Manager, Peter Chrystal highlighted the initiative’s role in supporting local career development.

“Our LAUNCH program reflects Council’s ongoing dedication to developing talent within our region and offering meaningful employment pathways,” Mr Chrystal said.

“By supporting early career roles, we’re not only building a capable future workforce for Council, but also contributing to the strength and growth of our local community.”

Applications for apprentice roles will be open until 31 July, and recruitment for trainee roles will be open until 7 August. Applications for undergraduate positions will close 21 August.
