Due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the greater Newcastle and Hunter Valley areas, NSW Health has issued a stay at home order effective from 5pm Saturday 14 August 2021 until further notice.
In response to the NSW Health stay at home order, Council services, facilities and events have been impacted.

Nominations for the 2022 Australia Day Awards open this Friday 17 September and Cessnock City Council is calling on the community to nominate locals who deserve to be recognised.
The Australia Day Awards recognise those in our community who make a difference. Nominations can be for an outstanding achievement during the past year and/or a significant contribution to the local community over a number of years.
A new award has also been announced for 2022, which is the Environment Award – Young Citizen. This award will provide the opportunity to recognise local young people who are championing environmental initiatives in the Cessnock community.
Residents are invited to nominate fellow citizen/s and/or organisations for Australia Day Awards in the following categories:
Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent, said the Australia Day Awards are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate those in our community who dedicate themselves to making our community a better place.
“We have had some magnificent people over the years take to the stage to accept their awards and many of these locals continue to great things in our community.”
“If you know of an exceptional individual or organisation doing great things in our community, I encourage you to nominate them today,” added Cr Pynsent.

The winners will be announced at a Civic Reception held on Australia Day.
