Kurri Kurri to Testers Hollow – Shared Pathway

  • Project typeShared Pathway
  • Project value$1,775,000
  • Project scheduleFebruary 2026 – December 2026

Background

LGA & Regional planning studies show that Cessnock LGA is growing rapidly with population set to increase by more than 49% over the next 20 years.  The Maitland LGA is experiencing similar levels of growth.  This growth places exponential demand on roads and transport infrastructure and highlights the need for improved walking and cycling infrastructure to provide connectivity from residential centres to public transport facilities and recreational spaces.  The proposed shared path would service the needs of these two neighbouring burgeoning cities with the intent being that the pathway would connect to future infrastructure from Gillieston Heights, to be constructed by others.

Scope of works

Design of Stages 1-3 and construction of part of Stage 1 only at this stage.

  • Stage 1: 1645m (including 170m shared zone). 2.5m wide shared concrete path on Main Road across Testers Hollow to William Tester Drive. Construction will be commencing in mid 2026 which will only be along the residential frontages of Main Rd, Cliftleigh. The construction work is broken up into 3 Construction Segments. Segment 1 construction works are set to commence May 2026 and involves the shared path construction following 66 Main Rd – 42 Main Rd, Cliftleigh and the removal of two (2) trees. Segment 2 which involves conversion of the current service lane from 38 – 24 Main Rd, Cliftleigh, to a shared zone and Segment 3 which will be continuing the shared path from 24 – 2 Main Rd, will commence soon after Segment 1 finishes.
  • Stage 2: Currently at Detailed Design phase – 2500m. Starting at the corner of Cliftleigh Drive and Glenayr Avenue. A transition from the existing 2.5m path to the proposed 4m shared path will need to be designed accordingly. Please refer to location map for alignment of the proposed path to the Hunter Expressway.
  • Stage 3: Currently at Detailed Design Phase: 1720m. Hunter Expressway to Lang Steet, Kurri Kurri
