Join us for an informal talk with exhibiting photographer Philip Quirk, on his latest exhibition, THE EISTEDDFODS. This work features a combination of mostly black and white portraits and competition dancing, along with a small sample of Kodachrome colour prints. This was Quirk's first essay on Australian society and was shot when black & white film was used extensively in magazines and on art gallery walls.
Philip Quirk is an Australian photographer and photojournalist known for his landscape and documentary photography. His career began after a surfing accident, where he discovered a talent for photographing his friends on the waves. This newfound passion led him to work with renowned Melbourne fashion photographer Bruno Benini, where he assisted with assignments and darkroom printing. He later became a founding member of the Wildlight photo agency, which promoted Australian imagery internationally through numerous publications such as Time magazine and National Geographic. Quirk has taught photography, published extensively, and exhibited widely. His work with a distinctive perspective is held in major national collections.
