Local Environment Plan amendments out for community comment

Two proposals to amend parts of the Cessnock Local Environment Plan (LEP) relating to Rural zones and Conservation zones are currently on exhibition for community feedback.

The amendments to Rural zones will seek to make changes to development types that are permitted in RU2 - Rural Landscape, and RU5 - Villages zones, and make minor changes to how and where rural zones are applied in the Cessnock LGA. The amendments also make changes to minimum lot size clauses relating to land requiring an on-site waste water management system.

The proposed amendments to the Conservation zones seek to amend relevant zone objectives and permissible land uses relating to the following zones: C2 Environmental Conservation zone, C3 Environmental Management zone, Environmental Living zone.

Cessnock City Mayor Jay Suvaal said this was an opportunity for the community to have its say on these amendments.

“The amendments will impact land uses in the Cessnock Local Government Area,” Mayor Suvaal said.

“That is why I am encouraging everyone to visit the Together Cessnock page on the Council website to have a say on the proposed changes.”

Both proposals were endorsed by the elected council for exhibition and have undergone preliminary assessment by the Department of Planning and Environment.

The proposals are now on exhibition for the community to comment and make a submission. Submissions will be considered when the elected council decides about the proposes changes.
