Infrastructure on the agenda in draft Operational Plan 2024-25

Cessnock City Council is set to invest approximately $75.3 million on roads, drains, bridges, community facilities and other capital works projects across the local government area in the next financial year.
Council’s draft Operational Plan currently on public exhibition outlines its priorities for next 12 months, and includes a $39.7 million investment in road and infrastructure improvements, incorporating road renewal programs, drainage and bridge construction, along with a further $5.4 million on works support services and facilities.
Cessnock City Mayor Jay Suvaal said this year’s Operational Plan continues investment in infrastructure and capital works that has been a feature of the current term of Council.
"Upgrading community infrastructure, and undertaking work on local roads, footpaths, and bridges continue to be key priorities for Cessnock City Council," said Clr Suvaal.
"Our most recent Final Budget Outcome delivered our highest annual investment in roads and capital works on record (70% higher than the previous record).
"The capital works program set out in the draft Operational Plan 2024/25, alongside our capital program we’re currently rolling out in FY23/24, continues our strong focus on capital delivery.
"Under the leadership of GM Ken Liddell, Cessnock City Council has set a new standard in delivering for our community. It’s an exciting time to live and work in the City of Cessnock."
A/GM Robert Maginnity said Council’s draft Operational Plan demonstrates how Council continues to adapt its service delivery in line with unprecedented challenges.
"Our considerable program of works reflects our commitment to meet the expectations and needs of our growing community," said Mr Maginnity.
The draft Operational Plan 2024-25, which marks the third year of Council’s current Delivery Program, is on public exhibition until 24 May 2024. Four community information sessions are planned at different time, days and locations across the LGA:
- Huntlee Markets - 8am-12pm, Saturday 4 May
- Paxton Pub - 4.30pm-6pm, Wednesday 8 May
- Cessnock Shopping Village – 11am-1pm, Thursday 9 May
- Weston Workers Club – 4.30pm-6pm, Monday 13 May
