Considered Serving Your Community as a Local Councillor?

Published on 31 May 2024

Local residents interested in becoming a Cessnock City Councillor are invited to attend one of two candidate information sessions.

The two sessions will be held at 1pm and 5.30pm on Wednesday 26 June in the Council Chambers, ahead of the local government elections taking place later this year.

Cessnock City Council General Manager Ken Liddell is encouraging anyone who is interested in standing for Council to take the opportunity to hear from Council’s Governance team and representatives from Local Government NSW.

"The candidate information sessions will cover useful information about the role and responsibilities involved in being a local councillor, what is expected during a term on Council, and the upcoming election," said Mr Liddell.

"Those who are new to local government will benefit from attending and be better informed about their decision to stand.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for those passionate about making a positive impact and interested in contributing to the decisions that shape our growing city’s future."

Whether you’re a seasoned community activist or a newcomer to local politics, this event is open to all residents interested in learning more about the councillor role and how they can make a difference in their community.
