A Government Gazette is an official publication created to notify the public of government business. All Australian governments i.e. Commonwealth, State and Territory publish official Government Gazettes. Digitised Government Gazettes can be found on Trove, National Library of Australia.

What kind of information can be found in Government Gazettes?

  • Appointments to and employment in government departments, schools, hospitals, the police service and other bodies, including public service transfers and retirements
  • Budgetary papers and reports relating to government budgets
  • Freedom of Information for the years covered by Acts
  • Gazetting of public places such as parks and reserves giving their boundaries
  • Government notices, including registers of medical professionals, licencing, honours, electoral notices, trade registrations and population statistics
  • Private legal notices including bankruptcies, company registrations and many local government matters
  • Proclamations and legislation, including some Acts and regulations
  • Tenders and contracts, including requests for tender and approved contracts
