Oakey Creek Road, Pokolbin

  • Project typeRoad safety improvements
  • Project scheduleConstruction: October 2022 - May 2023

Background

Cessnock City Council received a grant under the NSW Government Safer Roads Program to improve road safety on Oakey Creek Road, Pokolbin.

This project forms part of Council's Operational Plan. You can find it within the Operational Plan with the Project ID CRR 2021 006.

Scope of works

The approved scope of work under the grant includes:

  • construct road shoulders (between 0.5m and 1m wide);
  • widen narrow culverts;
  • remove selected trees and cutting batters;
  • construct wire rope barrier and guardrail;
  • install non-skid surface;
  • install audio-tactile centre and Edge lines, and
  • install raised reflective pavement markers.

Detour requirements

A temporary road closure will be necessary to undertake the works in the section of Oakey Creek Road from Somerset Lane to 600 metres west of Stevens Road.  A temporary detour via Marrowbone Road will be necessary at times around the construction zone for the duration of the works between early November 2022 to the end of May 2023. Council apologises for this inconvenience. The road is too narrow for the construction work to proceed with traffic present in certain locations when tree lopping, road reconstruction and other related activities are taking place.

The upgrade works on Oakey Creek Road will be undertaken from approximately 1.2 kilometres east of Marrowbone Road and extend for 1.1 kilometres to just east of Somerset Lane.
