Completed Information bay and parking facilities at Pokolbin Park

Hunter Valley Wine Country has boomed over the past 15 years with the establishment of many large vineyards, restaurants and tourist accommodation facilities.

The demand for improved wayfinding and tourist facilities has been identified by community, Council and business owners. The former existing tourist information maps and directional signage, comprising of timber posts, painted maps and timber route finger boards, were over 20 years old.

Council received funding from the NSW Government for new signage and improved the standard of wayfinding signage across the LGA.

Signage installations

New signage has been installed at the following locations:

  • Information bays with new parking facilities (see below): Abermain, Lovedale and Pokolbin
  • City gateway entry signs: Seahampton, Laguna and Pokolbin
  • 25 suburb entry signs: Various locations in the LGA
Please note - The number and location of signs chosen for the first phase of suburb signage was in accordance with the scope of works approved under the grant Council received for the project. Funding is currently being sought to roll out the second phase of the project which will encompass more suburbs in the Cessnock LGA. An announcement will be made when funding to complete these works is sourced.
  • 2 tourist precinct signs: Visitor Information Centre and Lovedale
  • 250 street blades/signs: Various locations
  • Community facility signs: Wollombi, Kitchener and Richmond Vale
  • Tourist wayfinding signs (brown tourist location signs): 17 locations throughout the vineyards
