Completed Information bay and parking facilities at Pokolbin Park

Hunter Valley Wine Country has boomed over the past 15 years with the establishment of many large vineyards, restaurants and tourist accommodation facilities.

The demand for improved wayfinding and tourist facilities has been identified by community, Council and business owners. The existing tourist information maps and directional signage, comprising of timber posts, painted maps and timber route finger boards, are over 20 years old.

Council has recently received funding from the NSW Government for new signage installations, so we now have the opportunity to improve the standard of signage in the LGA (and specifically in the vineyard area).

Signage installations

New signage has been installed at the following locations:

  • Information bays (including new parking facilities): Abermain, Lovedale and Pokolbin
  • City gateway entry signs: Seahampton, Laguna and Pokolbin
  • 25 suburb entry signs: Various locations in the LGA
Please note: The number and location of signs chosen for the first phase of suburb signage was in accordance with the scope of works approved under the grant Council received for the project. Funding is currently being sought to roll out the second phase of the project which will encompass more suburbs in the Cessnock LGA. An announcement will be made when funding to complete these works is sourced.
  • 2 tourist precinct signs: Visitor Information Centre and Lovedale
  • 250 street blades/signs: Various locations
  • Community facility signs: Wollombi, Kitchener and Richmond Vale
  • Tourist wayfinding signs (brown tourist location signs): 17 locations throughout the vineyards

Information bays

The 3 information bays and new car parking facilities are located:

  • Wilderness Road, Lovedale: A new car park and bypass lane on Wilderness Road (near the corner of Wine Country Drive) has recently been completed. The information bay is now complete and the facility is open to the public.
  • Jeffries Park, Cessnock Road, Abermain: The upgraded carpark on Cessnock Road and the information bay in Jeffries Park are now complete and the facilities are open to the public.
  • Pokolbin Park, McDonalds Road, Pokolbin: The existing park entry road and car parking area south of DeBeyers Road will be upgraded from late October 2020 until early December 2020. The park will be closed during this time. The information bay will be constructed during the park closure period.

Please note: There are now timed parking restrictions (refer to signage at each site) at the above carparks. Security cameras will soon be installed in Pokolbin Park on McDonalds Road, Pokolbin for the safety of all park users.
