Construction of the splash pad at Cessnock Pool will be completed by May 2022. The splash pad will be operational and ready to use later this year, after the annual outdoor pools winter shutdown which concludes in October.
The splash pad will incorporate slides, fountains, tipping buckets, soft fall, shade and seating. Additional improvements such as safety features and landscaping will complement the new area.
Council engaged with the community in 2018 and 2019 to develop a Masterplan for Cessnock Pool which incorporated a splash pad. The Masterplan was adopted in November 2019 and detailed design and construction drawings were completed soon after.
Council listed the project in its Operational Plan 2020-21 and applied to various funding bodies to secure the funds to construct the splash pad. The NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities program committed $242,355 and the Resources for Regions Program supported an application for $420,300 to construct the splash pad.
Works were due to be completed by October 2021, however, COVID-19 affected the manufacturing and subsequent shipping of the splash pad play toys from India to Sydney.
