Cessnock City Council is inviting residents of the Cessnock Local Government Area (LGA) to have their dog microchipped for FREE at Council’s Administration Building carpark on Saturday 8 May between 9.00am and 1.00pm.

As an added bonus, the first 30 dogs to be microchipped on the day will receive a FREE dog tag engraved with their name and their owner’s contact details. Dog tag engraving will be carried out after the event and tags will be available for collection at Council's Administration Building at a later date.

This event is open to residents of the Cessnock LGA only, and proof of residence will be required. No bookings are required.

Every year animals go missing from their homes due to inadequate fencing, theft or extraordinary escape artist skills. Making sure your pet is microchipped can be the difference between life and death.

A Microchip is a tiny rice grain-sized 'chip' which is injected under the skin of your pet. Owner and animal details are contained in the chip and can be checked by vets, Council and animal shelters. Whilst there are ways we can prevent our companions from getting loose, microchipping is a permanent method of identification and is every owner’s best chance of being reunited with their furry friend.

This event is only for dogs. Residents who would like their cat microchipped can contact Council's Customer Service Team on 4993 4100. They will arrange for a Ranger to come to your home and do the free mirchochip.

Litters will no be chipped on the day.
