Library reopening

Council pleased to announce that Kurri Kurri Library will reopen at 11am Monday 11 October 2021.

Council has taken the opportunity presented by the lockdown to repaint the interior of Cessnock Library and as work is still in progress, the Cessnock Branch will not open until 9am Monday 18 October 2021.

Following the reopening, both branches will operate 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday.

Library Services Co-ordinator, Rose-marie Walters said, “We can’t wait to open the doors and welcome the community back. As always, the health and safety of our staff and visitors remain our top priority, so we will be strictly complying with the NSW Public Health Orders.”

This means that visitors (aged 16 and over) will need to be fully vaccinated before they can come into the Library and they will be asked to present their digital or printed vaccination certificate to a Covid Marshall prior to entry as part of the check-in process.

Staff will do their best to get customers through the door as quickly as possible and ask for patience during this process. Face masks are also required to be worn at all times. There will also be a limit of 20 people at any time in each building.

Initially, the library will be only offering limited services, but services and opening hours will progressively increase over the coming weeks in line with relevant Public Health Orders. Public programs and learning activities will be continue to be delivered online for the time being.

The popular Click/Call and Collect service will also remain available. Customers are able to phone and discuss selections with staff, reserve items from the library collection for free or place orders via the library website. Staff will prepare orders so they are ready for contactless pick up.

The 24/7 eBranch is always open and can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection and your free library card. If you are not already a member, residents are invited to head to cessnock.nsw.gov.au/libraries and click on ‘join.’ There is a huge range of free eBooks, eMags, eMusic, eFilms, and TV shows to keep you (and the kids) entertained at home.

Instructions to set up these various apps can be found on our website, but If you need any assistance, our friendly library staff are available to help you and you can reach us by calling Cessnock Library on 4993 4399 Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
