Sports, arts and community groups within the Cessnock Local Government Area (LGA) can now apply for funding under Cessnock City Council’s Dollar for Dollar Grants Scheme.

The grant scheme is about supporting community and sporting groups to deliver projects and events that will enhance community life in the Cessnock LGA.

There is $30,000 available for local sporting groups to get important projects off the ground. This could include improving sporting facilities or purchasing equipment for the long-term benefit of sporting clubs and their members.

Another $30,000 is on offer for Council owned community facilities such as halls and other buildings in need of an update. This grant scheme supports the completion of minor capital works or the purchase of equipment that will help improve the facility.

Not-for-profit community, arts and cultural groups have $33,685 in funding available. These grants can be used to undertake projects or events that increase opportunities for community participation, improve community well-being, or benefit cultural development in the wider community. This grant scheme can also be used to undertake improvements to Council owned facilities that contribute to the cultural or artistic use of the facility.

Cessnock City Council Mayor Jay Suvaal said he believes in investing in the community and recognises the invaluable contribution that community and sporting groups make to enhance the towns where we live, work and play.

“Council has more than $90,000 in grants available under this scheme and I strongly encourage community and sporting groups to look at the guidelines and get an application in,” Mayor Suvaal said.

“This grant scheme has delivered some fantastic projects and upgrades over the years, and provided community and sporting groups with new equipment to improve their facilities and offerings.”

Applications close at 5pm on Friday 2 September 2022. To find out more and apply, visit www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/Grants
