Have your say on Cessnock’s Climate Change Strategy

Cessnock City Council is preparing an Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy and is calling on the community to have its say. 

This Strategy is a key action from the Climate Change Policy and will identify the actions required to improve sustainability and manage the effects of climate change in the Cessnock Local Government Area (LGA) into the future.

Residents were invited to take part in a survey late last year and for the next phase of this project, Council is calling on people who live and work in the Cessnock LGA to provide input on what should be included in the Strategy.

To gain this valuable input from the community, Council will host a series of online and phone consultation sessions where people can find out more and have their say.

The online Zoom sessions will take place on Monday 31 January from 10.30 to 11.30am, and 5.30 to 6.30pm. The phone sessions will take place on Monday 31 January from 2 to 4.30pm and Thursday 3 February from 10am to 12.30pm.

Cessnock City Council Mayor, Jay Suvaal, is encouraging residents to get involved as this Strategy will set Cessnock City’s environmental direction by identifying the key actions we will take as a community.

“Council is committed to protecting and enhancing the natural environment, but we must recognise the importance of shared responsibility when it comes to these important issues,” Cr Suvaal said.

“Community input on this project is so important and consultation with residents will be ongoing.”
