Cessnock City Library will celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with free events to honour the Monarch’s 70 years on the throne.

Jan Hugo, of Monarchs in the Hunter, will deliver a fascinating talk at Cessnock Library on Thursday 2 June, between 5.30 and 6.30pm.

Jan will be telling the story of how she became fascinated by royal memorabilia, and will share some of her favourite ERII (Elizabeth Regina II) items from her extensive royal collection (over 10,000 items).

Bookings are essential for this talk, and can be made by visiting library website or by calling Cessnock Library on 4993 4399 or Kurri Kurri Library on 4937 1638.

Cessnock City Council’s Library Services Coordinator Rose-marie Walters said that Cessnock Library would also be hosting a display of Jan’s royal memorabilia throughout June.

“I encourage local residents to come along and check out Jan’s royal collection, which will be on display from Monday 30 May until the end of June,” Rose-marie said.

Cessnock and Kurri Kurri Libraries will also host a special royal-themed story time for kids featuring stories such as Where’s Mrs Queen, by Ingela P Arrhenius, and the award-winning picture book The Queen’s Hat, by Steve Antony.

These royal-themed story time events will take place at Cessnock Library on Tuesday 7 June, between 10 and 11am and at Kurri Kurri Library on Wednesday 8 June, between 10 and 11am. No bookings are required for these events.
