2022 Australia Day Award nominations open this Friday!

Nominations for the 2022 Australia Day Awards open this Friday 17 September and Cessnock City Council is calling on the community to nominate locals who deserve to be recognised.
The Australia Day Awards recognise those in our community who make a difference. Nominations can be for an outstanding achievement during the past year and/or a significant contribution to the local community over a number of years.
A new award has also been announced for 2022, which is the Environment Award – Young Citizen. This award will provide the opportunity to recognise local young people who are championing environmental initiatives in the Cessnock community.
Residents are invited to nominate fellow citizen/s and/or organisations for Australia Day Awards in the following categories:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Senior Citizen of the Year
- Maree Callaghan Award – Young Female Achiever
- Community Event of the Year
- Sports Award
- Environment Award
- Environment Award – Young Citizen
- Heritage Award
- Community Award
Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent, said the Australia Day Awards are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate those in our community who dedicate themselves to making our community a better place.
“We have had some magnificent people over the years take to the stage to accept their awards and many of these locals continue to great things in our community.”
“If you know of an exceptional individual or organisation doing great things in our community, I encourage you to nominate them today,” added Cr Pynsent.
