Cessnock City Council has made the development application process easier! All development applications lodged with Council must be lodged via the NSW Planning Portal.

The NSW Planning Portal is a digital space where community, industry and government can work together to provide a digital experience that supports effective planning and decision making in the support of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. Cessnock City Council’s, Director of Planning and Environment Gareth Curtis said it’s an exciting step for Council and our customers.

“We’re committed to improving our customer’s experience lodging a development application using the portal. It’s aimed at making planning simpler, information accessible, reducing assessment times and it provides more transparency for the applicant. Portal users will also receive notifications during the assessment process, keeping them in the loop at relevant milestones in the process.”

As of 1 January all applications associated with development must be lodged using the NSW Planning Portal. This includes:

  • Development Applications
  • Section 4.55 Applications
  • Complying Development Applications
  • Construction Certificates
  • Subdivision Works Certificates
  • Subdivision Certificates
  • Occupation Certificates

To use the Portal please register and verify your account. To do this and make this transition as smooth as possible visit the NSW Planning Portal. Council’s planning & environment team are also happy to assist.
