Open to play but please do so responsibly!

Cessnock City Council is pleased to announce it will be reopening a number of outdoor gyms, playgrounds, barbecue areas and public toilets across the Cessnock Local Government Area. Some facilities will be open to the public from today following the NSW Government’s advice earlier in the week.
The NSW Government announced changes to restrictions across the state that mean Council can now start to open these vital community facilities for residents to enjoy.
Council is adopting a phased approach to ensure the safety of both staff and the community. Facilities open as of Friday 15 May include:
- Ayrfield Miners Memorial Park North Rothbury
- Birralee Park, Kurri Kurri
- Bridges Hill Park, Cessnock
- Carmichael Park, Bellbird
- Cliftleigh Meadows District Park
- Maybury Peace Park, Weston
- Miller Park, Branxton
- Mulbring Park, Mulbring
- Slacks Park, Wollombi
- Veteran’s Memorial Park, Aberdare
It’s important that those choosing to use these facilities follow strict hygiene with frequent washing of their hands and adhere to social distancing. Signs have been erected at the facilities to remind residents of their responsibilities.
Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent encouraged residents to do the right thing.
“We’re pleased that residents can once again enjoy parks, playgrounds and open spaces with their families but it must be done responsibly.”
“Make sure you’re washing your hands and staying 1.5 metres away from those who do not reside in your household. Pack hand sanitiser in case you are visiting at a park without hand washing facilities. We urge residents to wipe down equipment before and after use.”
