The draft Skate and BMX Strategy is now on public exhibition and community members are encouraged to provide their feedback. The draft Strategy includes recommendations for existing skate and BMX facilities and outlines future needs. It identifies 23 actions, including upgrades to current facilities, priorities for new facilities and future investigations.
It is an important strategy for our growing community and we know our community have a strong interest in these facilities. They are an important space for families and young people, and we want to hear from you about how you would like Council to upgrade and improve these spaces into the future. Council adopted the 2020-2021 Operational Plan that includes a $30 million Capital Works Program, which will reach over a record $40 million following the next budget review. This is due to recent announcements of additional grant funding. This is record funding and will provide a huge boost to our local economy in a time when we need it most. Council is always looking for new opportunities to keep residents informed about Council services, projects and works. Council will shortly be launching the Cessnock City eNews which you can subscribe to here.
Council’s crews are progressing works in the Branxton CBD, residents will notice the installation of pavers, trees and street furniture shortly. Bridges Hill Park Playground and Access Improvements Project is continuing to come along well with the final elements being installed in the playground. The Sky Tower installation will occur over the coming weeks and is sure to be a hit with park users. Construction of the pedestrian access stairs from Yango Street to Millfield Street is well underway with sandstone retaining wall works, concrete walking paths completed and pre-fabricated stair scheduled within the coming weeks.
