Congratulations to Councillor Darrin Gray, who was elected to the position of Deputy Mayor of Cessnock City Council overnight.

Council’s General Manager Lotta Jackson was the returning officer for the election and declared Councillor Gray the successful candidate during last night’s council meeting.

Councillor Gray will replace Councillor Melanie Dagg who has held the position for the last two years.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent recognised Councillor Dagg on her fantastic work.

“Cr Dagg has served her community proudly during her term and has represented me at various events doing an exceptional job. Cr Dagg is extremely passionate advocate for our community and no doubt will continue this in her role as a Councillor.”

Cr Gray said he is honoured to be supported by his fellow Councillors and take on the position.

“I have lived in the Cessnock Local Government Area all my life, as have generations before me. I feel both a sense of obligation and privilege to be able to contribute to our ongoing prosperity for future generations.”

“I’m looking forward to the new role and the opportunity it brings to continue to advocate for our community.”
