Yesterday morning Cessnock City Council marked the completion of work at Abermain that saw the construction of a new information bay and additional parking.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said the finished product looks fantastic and provides a benefit for both tourists and residents.

“We’ve received great feedback on the upgrade that has provided seven new off street carparks including an accessible space. It is the perfect location to stop off on a road trip. Visitors can pull in, use the toilet amenities and enjoy some time at the park. The parking will be utilised by not only tourists travelling and planning their visit in our beautiful local government area but also those visiting Jeffries Park and other local businesses in the vicinity.”

Dr Saif Alkadhi from Abermain Surgery, located across the road from the new information bay, welcomed the upgrade, especially the additional parking.

Council’s construction crew worked together with local contractors to minimise disruption and provide high quality infrastructure

This work is part of the implementation of the Wine Country Signage Strategy and assists tourists in wayfinding. It has seen a variety of new signage rolled out including suburb entry signs, city gateway signage and information bays.

Council will shortly complete the construction of two other information bays located at Wilderness Road, Lovedale and Pokolbin Park, Pokolbin. For more information on the signage visit our project page.

This project is funded by a $2.26 million grant from the NSW Government's Regional Growth and Tourism Fund.
