Scott Bevan is a renowned Australian TV and radio presenter, journalist, author, Hunter local and kayaker. His bestselling books include The Harbour, The Hunter and Bill: the Life of William Dobell.

For his latest book, "The Lake: Exploring a Splendid Sheet of Water," Scott is back in the kayak and journeying through the Lake Macquarie – exploring the bays, villages, islands, characters and history of all 174 kilometres of this iconic waterway and Australia’s largest coastal saltwater lake.

Cessnock City Library Local Studies Librarian, Kimberly O’Sullivan said Lake Macquarie has always had a special place in the history of Cessnock.

“For decades, ‘the Lake’ was the favoured place for the annual colliery picnic day. Double-decker buses transported families, workmates and friends to Lake Macquarie where picnics, games, fresh air and fun ruled. The picnic days also provided a counterpoint to work in the underground collieries.”

The community is invited to join Scott Bevan as he relates his experiences, the Lake’s history and the stories he found along the way at a fascinating and free author talk at Cessnock Library on Thursday 6 May from 5.30-6.30pm.

Library Services Co-ordinator, Rose-marie Walters is encouraging locals to come along and enjoy the talk.

Copies of Scott’s book will be available for sale and signing on the night.

Bookings are essential and can be made by calling the Cessnock Library team on 4993 4399, vist the libary website or in person at the library desk.
