Col Brown Rotary Park gets a refresh

Works have kicked off to upgrade Col Brown Rotary Park, Kurri Kurri and improve the much loved park for the entire community.

The project is made possible thanks to $482,198 from the NSW Government’s Resource for Regions Fund Round 7. 

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter, Taylor Martin said the upgrades will enhance Kurri Kurri’s visual appeal and provide a dedicated recreational area for locals and visitors. 

“This project will provide a safe and comfortable space for locals and visitors to enjoy,” Mr Martin said.

“Upgrading Col Brown Rotary Park is a project that will improve the lives of Cessnock residents and is a great example of what the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions fund is designed to deliver.”

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said it’s a fantastic project.

“The upgrade will improve the current space and make it more enjoyable for those visiting the park, while also ensuring all the best features of the park remain. This park is home to so many wonderful community events already and we want to ensure we’re making the most of this great space.” 

“New pathways for better access, more trees, park furniture and lighting are all part of the work. A real highlight will be the construction of sandstone amphitheatre that will no doubt see this space be used for a variety of events in the future,” he said. 

Council is carrying out the upgrade in stages to ensure limited disruption to the community. The park will be open for the duration of the project and businesses in the vicinity will continue to be informed about any impacts on parking.

The works are part of the implementation of the Kurri Kurri CBD Masterplan.
