The purpose of the Draft Installation of Directional Signs for Community, Services and Tourist Facilities Policy is to provide a consistent approach for the installation of community, service and tourist facility signage across the Cessnock LGA.

The benefits of providing a consistent approach includes:

  • increasing the effectiveness of signage as a wayfinding tool
  • increasing recognition of the Cessnock and Wine Country brands
  • providing significant road safety benefits
  • ensuring Council’s compliance with relevant legislation, standards, policies and strategies.

It’s proposed to include tourist signage in the existing Installation of Directional Signs for Community Facilities and Services Policy.

The updated draft Policy clearly defines community, service and tourist facilities. It provides specific eligibility criteria for signage installation, and reflects changes in legislation and policy that have occurred since it was last reviewed. It also provides guidance on:

  • signage types
  • eligibility
  • sign content
  • suitability of location
  • enforcement
