Draft Control of Open Burning Policy

We're reviewing the Control of Open Burning (Dead and Dry Vegetative Material) Policy which outlines under what conditions an approval to burn in the open can be granted.

It applies to all open burning, backyard burning and pile burning within the Cessnock local government area.

We're proposing changes to address administrative matters and improve clarity around the scope of the policy and roles of Council, NSW Environmental Protection Authority and the relevant fire authorities.

This policy is part of our commitment to promoting safe communities, a key objective of the Cessnock 2027 Community Strategic Plan.

Submissions must be received by 5:00pm on 16 April 2021 and should quote “Draft Control of Open Burning Policy”.
