Have your say about the BMX facility at Carmichael Park

Council is calling on the community to have their say on the upgrade of the BMX facility at Carmichael Park in Bellbird, and by doing so, there are great prizes to be won!

Council has engaged Bike Tracks Australia and Bligh Tanner to develop a concept plan to upgrade Cessnock’s only public BMX facility. As part of this, Council wants to know what the community values in a BMX facility and what elements are important to them, so community ideas can be incorporated into the concept plan.

Residents can have their say in a number of ways, including:

Completing the online survey, which takes about five minutes to complete. Everyone who completes the survey can choose to go in the draw to win one of five $50 pre-paid Visa cards.
Submit suggestions via the online ideas wall. Submit your idea via the ideas wall or text 0402 822 698 and Council staff will add it for you.
Enter the drawing competition (children 12 and under). Children are invited to draw their ideas for a BMX facility and submit via email to recreation@cessnock.nsw.gov.au. The drawing competition will be judged by Cessnock City Mayor, Bob Pynsent and the winner will receive a family season pass to Cessnock and Branxton Pools valued at $386. Participating in two rounds of online workshops. The first round will be held in October 2021 to provide input into draft concept plan. The second round will be held in November 2021 to present the draft concept plan to participants for feedback. There will also be a workshop just for young people.

The concept plan will be made available for further community feedback and comment before being reported to Council in early 2022.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said this facility will provide greater opportunity for young riders to enhance their skills and encouraged residents to have their say.

“Earlier this year, Council applied for funding under the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions program to fund a $250,000 upgrade to the BMX facility. Developing a concept plan is the first step in getting construction under way, which will hopefully kick off in 2022,” added Cr Pynsent.
