Simon Whitlock was born in Cessnock in 1969 and grew up between Cessnock and Hornsby. 

Simon, who uses the nickname ‘The Wizard’ for his matches has played professional darts since 1984. Simon currently plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) tournaments, having also played in the British Darts Organisation (BDO) between 2004 and 2009. 

Simon qualified for the 2002 PDC as the Oceanic Masters winner. He competed on the World Darts Federation circuit until 2008, when he reached the Lakeside Championship final.

In 2009 Simon reached the PDC World Championship final in Alexandra Palace. Simon finished runner-up at both the 2008 BDO World Darts Championship and the 2010 PDC World Darts Championship.

Simon won the European Championship in 2012 and reached the 2013 final. He also reached the 2012 finals of both the Premier League and World Cup of Darts.

In 2017, Simon reached the final of the World Grand Prix.

Currently Simon plays in PDC tournaments in the UK, but starts each game to the theme "Down Under" by Men At Work.
