Assessment
Hall of Fame - Selection Criteria
Nominations are assessed by Cessnock City Council's Community Engagement Awards and Grants Committee and recommended nominees are endorsed by Council.
The Council Community Engagement Awards and Grants Committee can recommend nominees for induction that fall outside the Scale of Achievement but meet the objectives of the Hall of Fame.
Council reserves the right to withdraw inductees from the Hall of Fame if it is considered inappropriate for the inductee to remain.
Unsuccessful nominees will be given the opportunity to be considered for an Australia Day Award.
Assessment of eligible nominations will be based on the applicant’s demonstration of:
- a significant and enduring contribution to their field of endeavour
- specific achievements of the nominee at the scale of achievement detailed for each category
- meeting the objectives of the Hall of Fame.
Fame or celebrity is not used as a measure of achievement.
Scale of achievement - Arts
Recognising achievement in the arts including film, theatre, music, visual, literary and performing arts.
Examples of the scale of achievement include:
- receipt of an award at a state, national or international level in recognition of artistic endeavour
- publication of a work of literary significance, e.g. a major best seller, a work recognised by peers as being of significant merit
- exhibition of work at a gallery of state or national status
- performing or production member of a national company or a company of national status
- significant contribution to the production of a nationally or internationally acclaimed film, television or stage production
- receipt of an award at a state, national or international level in recognition of journalism
Scale of achievement - Sport
Recognising achievement in sport including sports administration and coaching.
Examples of the scale of achievement include:
- selected for professional representation of Australia in an international competition for an individual or team sport
- major contribution to the development of sport of national or international significance through innovation, invention or outstanding commitment
Scale of achievement - Public Service
Recognising achievement in public service including politics, unionism, academia, education, community service, or defence.
Examples of the scale of achievement include:
- appointment to a position of prominence or leadership in a State or Federal government organisation, department or instrumentality
- appointment to a State or Federal government ministerial position
- appointment to a position of prominence or leadership in a state, national or international non-government or not-for-profit organisation
- major contribution to public service through outstanding commitment or service
- the awarding of a Companion or Officer in the Order of Australia
Scale of achievement - Science
Recognising achievement in science. Examples of the scale of achievement include:
- establishment of a scientific organisation which has developed into an undertaking of state, national or international proportion
- appointment to a position of prominence or leadership in a scientific organisation of state, national or international status
- major contribution to the development of science, research or understanding of national or international significance through innovation, invention or outstanding commitment
- receipt of an award at a state, national or international level in recognition of scientific endeavour
Scale of achievement - Business
Recognising achievement in business including agriculture.
Examples of the scale of achievement include:
- establishment of a business which has developed into an undertaking of state, national or international proportion
- appointment to a position of leadership in a business or industry organisation of state, national or international status
- major contribution to the development of an industry or sector of national or international significance through innovation, invention or outstanding commitment
- receipt of an award at a state, national or international level in recognition of business practice
Scale of achievement - Meritorious Families
Recognising families who have been associated with the City of Cessnock for three or more generations.
Meritorious Families can be inducted for achievements in any one category.
Each generation must have made a significant contribution to the nominated field of endeavour.
