Roads & Drainage

There are more than 1,010 kilometres of roads within the Cessnock LGA and that does not include roads in state forests or national parks. Council is the responsible authority for more than 900 kilometres of those roads.

Almost 610 kilometres of roads in the LGA are sealed with the annual budget to maintain and reseal Council roads just under $3 million.

It costs Council approximately $120,000 to seal just one kilometre of a suburban street. To maintain an unsealed or gravel road costs $4,500 per kilometre.

The road maintenance and construction schedules are here on Council’s website and are updated regularly. If you wish to report a maintenance requirement, please contact Customer Service on 4993 4300.

There are 102 bridges in our LGA with 62 of those being constructed from timber. Some bridges have load limits so please be aware of this when travelling with heavy loads.
