Cessnock City Planning Strategy Project

Cessnock City Council has previously identified the need to update and replace the existing Cessnock City Wide Settlement Strategy 2003 and 2010.  The Cessnock City Planning Strategy Project has now commenced.  The aim of the Project is to develop a solid foundation of evidence to inform the future strategic land use development of the Cessnock Local Government Area and to develop a new planning strategy based on that evidence which will guide the preparation of future amendment(s) of Cessnock Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2011 and Cessnock Development Control Plan (DCP) 2010.

Due to the extensive breadth of works required to be undertaken, the Project has been split into two phases which will extend over a two year period.  This year (2016) has seen the recent appointment of consultants to undertake the more technical background studies.  Next year will see the development of the new planning strategy which will include public consultation and exhibition.

Prior to commencement of the background studies, Council undertook an Expression of Interest process inviting written submissions of potential investigation for development sites/matters.  Copies of all EOI’s have now been provided to Council’s Consultants who will consider the submissions and provide technical advice for consideration as part of the development of the new planning strategy next year.

Any enquiries should be directed to Wonona Fuzzard, Council’s Principal Strategic Land Use Planner on 02 4993 4287.
