NSW Minerals CouncilThe NSW Minerals Council (NSWMC) is a not for profit, peak industry association representing the State’s $17 billion mining industry.
NSWMC provides a single, united voice on behalf of its member companies which include mineral producers, operators, explorers and extractive material producers operating in NSW.
Representing more than 70 mining businesses, NSWMC works closely with government, industry groups, key stakeholders and the community to foster a dynamic, efficient and sustainable mining industry in NSW. Xstrata CoalXstrata Coal is the world’s largest exporter of thermal coal and a significant producer of premium quality hard coking coal and semi-soft coal. Headquartered in Sydney, Australia, Xstrata Coal has interests in over 30 operating coal mines in Australia, South Africa and Colombia and an exploration project in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Cessnock City CouncilCessnock Local Government Area (Cessnock City) covers approximately 1,950 square kilometres within the Hunter Valley of New South Wales, approximately 120 kilometres north of Sydney and 40 kilometres west of Newcastle.
Whilst mining was the principal industrial base and source of employment in the Cessnock area for the first half of this century, changes to the mining industry, including automation and the introduction of sophisticated computerised equipment, led to the closure of the vast majority of mines in the area.
The decline of mining has been paralleled by growth in the wine industry. Our population is approaching 52,000 residents.
