Australia Day Awards

Australia Day

Each year the residents of Cessnock Local Government Area are invited to nominate fellow citizens for the Cessnock Local Citizen of the Year Awards. The awards aim to recognise outstanding achievement during the past year and/or contribution to the local community over a number of years.

A concern for the environment and our heritage, desire for prosperity with a share for all, participation in sport, cultural diversity, the importance of strong community values and supports systems, a keen sense that we have our own contribution to make on the world stage - these are all considered among the key factors in the national identity. Outstanding achievement or contribution towards these shared values is the basis of the Awards. Any individual or organisation can make a nomination.

These unique individuals have given their time freely for numerous organisations throughout the LGA and are always the first to offer support and assistance to the members of the community.

Australia Day celebrations which are held on 26 January each year are an opportunity to recognise our community achievements, and to enjoy the artistic talents of our City’s youth, welcome our new citizens and to meet our Australia Day Ambassador.
