All hairdressers, beauty therapists, tattooists, ear piercers, acupuncturists and commercial swimming pools within the Cessnock City Council area must be registered with Council.
To ensure that these facilities operate in accordance with the Public Health Act 1991, Public Health Act 2010, the Public Health (Skin Penetration) Regulation 2000, the Local Government (General) Regulation 2005 and the New South Wales Department of Health Skin Penetration Guidelines and Code of Best Practice, 2001, Council’s Environmental Health Officers inspect these facilities.
Health operators need to ensure that they conduct their businesses in a safe and hygienic manner. Unsafe or unhygienic practices can have an impact on the health of customers and encourage the spread of infectious disease.
