Celebrate your generation Youth Week 2018
The program for
National Youth Week 2018 has been launched and our local young people are keen
to get involved in the more than 25 events on offer.
Youth Week kicks off on 6 April and runs up until the 22 April, with well over 1000 young people expected to take part in events being held across the Cessnock Local Government Area.
Over the past few months Cessnock’s Youth Week Organising Committee has been working hard to organise events and activities that will excite and engage all young people.
Young people have played a huge role in making the program so fantastic. Cessnock Youth Entertainment Committee members, Lachy Campbell and Michael Sim are launching their event ‘Thrift Shop Kahoot’.
Lachy said he got involved after his band Interlude played at last year's YouthFest.
“When I saw the amount of young people running events I wanted to be involved.”
The program is jam-packed with great events so no matter what a young person is interested in they’ll find something that sparks their interest.
Meraki will give young people the chance to share their creative talents at an open mic night and there is also Take the Stage for those who like performing. The Harry Potter Escape Room and the Thrift Shop Kahoot are exciting new activities. For those who enjoy hands on activities think about signing up to the DIY Bunning’s Workshop or the Maintain Your Ride Workshop.
YouthFest, now in its fourteenth year, is of course expected to attract large crowds, the FREE event includes live music and a bike, skate and scooter competition. Cessnock Youth Entertainment Committee’s Georgia Cunningham has been involved with YouthFest for a couple of years and said it’s a great event.
“YouthFest is a celebration of young people, run by young people and is always such a fun time.”
Youth Week 2018 is proud to offer an inclusive program with 26 of the 27 events accessible. YouthFest is not 100% accessible but will have accessible toilets, parking and the Including YOU tent.
