Cessnock City Council is encouraging local children to get involved in this year’s summer reading initiative.

Every year over the summer break, Cessnock and Kurri Kurri Libraries organise a reading competition, whereby children and their families are rewarded for reading.

Participants earn tickets for their reading and have a chance to win a prize at the draw at the beginning of the new school year.

Reading is an essential skill for everyone; it the foundation of a child’s learning and engagement in their school years and for life.

This year’s Summer Reading Club kicks off in December.

All you need to do is come into Cessnock or Kurri Kurri Library any time on or after Thursday 1st December, register at the front counter, pick up your Summer Reading Kit, and you’re on your way!

This year’s theme is Heroes and Villains, so keep your eye out for some exciting school holiday activities at the library – who’s your favourite superhero?
