Every year over the summer break, Cessnock and Kurri Kurri Libraries organise a reading competition, seeing children and their families rewarded for picking up a book and reading.

Participants in the Summer Reading Club earn tickets for their reading and have a chance to win a prize at the beginning of the new school year.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent is encouraging families to get their children involved.

“Reading is an essential skill for everyone and forms the foundation of a child’s learning in their school years and for later on in life.”

“The Summer Reading Club gives children an incentive to read more and learn to enjoy reading”, Cr Pynsent said.

This year’s club kicks off next month, you can register from Friday 1 December, 2017 at the front counter, pick up your Summer Reading Kit, and you’re on your way!
