Popping to Poppet Head Park, Kitchener is even easier with the upgraded car parking and new pathway.
Popping to Poppet Head Park, Kitchener is even easier with the upgraded car parking and new pathway.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said the park is the site of the historic Poppet Head of the Aberdare Central Colliery, a remnant of our mining history.

“The iconic structure and its links with our past has made the park a favourite with locals and visitors to the region”.

“The recently sealed carpark and connecting pathway improves the accessibility to the picnic areas and other amenities”, Cr Pynsent said.

Local resident and founding member of a management committee Ken Victor attended the opening of the upgraded facilities.

Mr Victor played an instrumental role in the creation of Poppet Head Park, with his efforts including restoring the iconic Poppet Head, building the original jetty, ongoing maintenance and lobbying for infrastructure to improve the park.

School students from Kitchener Public School accompanied by School Principal, Luke Somerville were also impressed by the new additions to the park.
